Full-screen Google Calendar reminders on Mac

No browser tab to keep open. Free, open source, no tracking.

Google Calendar's reminders on a Mac depend on a browser tab and a notification banner. Close the tab, mute Chrome's notifications, or look at another display, and the meeting starts without you. Slapss lives in the menu bar and puts a full-screen alert on your screen when the meeting begins, with a Join button for the Meet link.

Set it up in a minute

1

Open System Settings, Internet Accounts, add your Google account and turn on Calendars.

2

Install Slapss from the Mac App Store and allow calendar access when it asks.

3

Pick which calendars should alert you in Slapss Settings, Calendars. Done.

Slapss reads the events through macOS, so there is no extra Google sign-in inside the app, and your calendar never passes through a server of ours.

Google Meet with the right account

If you use more than one Google account, a Meet link can open in the wrong one. In Settings, Calendars you can choose which Google account opens each calendar's Meet links, so the work meeting opens in your work account.

Questions

Do I need to keep Chrome or a Google Calendar tab open?
No. Slapss reads your Google Calendar through macOS Calendar, so the alert fires with every browser closed.
Does Slapss ask for access to my Google account?
No. You add the account to macOS once, in System Settings, Internet Accounts. Slapss never sees your Google password or a Google token.
Can I use several Google accounts?
Yes. Add each one to macOS, choose which calendars alert you, and pick which account opens each calendar's Meet links.
Is it free?
Yes. No subscription, no in-app purchase, no limit. Slapss is open source under the Apache 2.0 license.
